Valyria Peptides / research peptide guides

Peptide concentration: mg, mcg and mL

Peptide concentration in mg/mL is the entered mass in mg divided by the final solution volume in mL. The Valyria Peptides calculator uses your measurements to calculate concentration and the volume corresponding to a user-selected mass.

Prepared with automated writing assistance from Valyria Peptides’s catalog rules and the sources listed below. This page explains our record checks and calculator assumptions; it is not a laboratory protocol or a product-use recommendation.

Keep mass, volume and activity separate

One mg equals 1,000 mcg. A mL measures volume. On a U-100 scale, 100 units correspond to 1 mL, so one graduation corresponds to 0.01 mL. These scale units are different from International Units (IU), which express biological activity. A material-specific validated activity factor would be needed to relate IU to mass; this calculator does not make that conversion.

A worked arithmetic check

For a hypothetical 5 mg mass in a final volume of 2 mL, concentration is 2.5 mg/mL. A user-entered 250 mcg amount is 0.25 mg, corresponding to 0.1 mL or 10 U-100 scale units. Dividing 5 mg by 0.25 mg gives 20 theoretical draws. These numbers are an arithmetic example, not a recommended amount or preparation instruction.

What a reconstitution calculator assumes

The water input assumes the final volume equals the volume added. It does not model displacement, dissolution, adsorption, transfer losses or dead space. The choice of bacteriostatic water (BAC water) as an input label does not establish solvent suitability, vial capacity, stability or sterility. Use the laboratory’s approved method and material-specific documentation for those decisions.

Check the capacity warning

The 0.3, 0.5 and 1 mL options change the scale capacity shown by the visual. If the calculated volume exceeds that capacity, the calculator reports the full result and a warning. It does not reduce the number to fit. Complete draws are rounded down; theoretical draws retain the fraction. Blends and activity-defined products are not automatically prefilled from an ambiguous label.
